The Exhibition "Retain the memory" in Szczecin's
Underground Tourist Routes.
Tourist Routes under the Main Railway Station in
Szczecin are inviting to see the new exhibition lend us by Polish
- German Reconciliation Foundation.
Exhibition organized with German' Historical Institut
and Berlin' Historical Workshop support for 66 outbreak of the II
world war anniversary. A part of this exhibition showing the compulsory
work of Poles for Germans is exposed in the shelter.
Poland was the first victim of this bloodiest of
wars. "They took away your lives, today we are giving you only
memory" - those are words from one of the monuments. People
have to remember how important thing for Europeans should be the
memory of extermination of Poles in 1939-45.
The II World War was not only fight but also work.
It was needed to make costs of work lower. That's why Germans started
to open work agencies just after they came into Poland. Thousands
of posters were showing that work in the Germany
is a privilege and almost fun. But when despite of mass propaganda
there weren't many people ready to work, Germans started a new campaign.
Prisoners of war and accidental people were forced to work in factories
and on the farms. Primarily, they were Poles, but later also Russians,
Ukrainians, Serbs, Frenchmen, Belgians and Dutchmen. Work was hard
but the wage was minimum. There were many cases of sabotage, which
were punished even by death.
Compulsory workers had to wear signs - for example
Poles "P", workers from East "Ost". Compulsory
workers were working on the farms, in war industry, but they were
also building shelters. In Szczecin there were 118 working camps.
Those were places where humanity didn't exist.
Today in one of Szczecin’s districts - Pomorzany - there is a monument
(cross) - it makes us remember about those incidents.
Touring the shelter and exhibition on the route
II World War each day at 12:00. Four groups of 8 persons and more
shelter exploration is possible at other hours. |
